Our Technicians:
We currently have twelve Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) who
provide hands-on care
for our patients.
In order to become an RVT our staff members have successfully completed a 2 year academic program or equivalent, and passed the California Veterinary Medical Board licensing test. (For more information you can go to vmb.ca.gov ). We maintain a full staff of licensed technicians to help assure the safety and well being of your pet(s). Our RVTs have five specific job tasks that non-licensed veterinary assistants may not perform under the law. Those job tasks are inducing anesthesia, suturing existing skin wounds, extracting teeth, applying splints and casts, and administering emergency life-saving treatments without the supervision of a veterinarian.
Only veterinarians may make diagnoses, prescribe therapy, and perform surgery.
All of our technicians obtain diagnostic samples and perform lab tests, take x-rays, perform dental prophylaxis, assist the doctors in surgery, monitor patients, administer medications, and help educate clients. We encourage all unregistered technicians and assistants to complete the education and training necessary to qualify for the RVT board exam. The nearby Foothill College offers one of the premier RVT programs in the country. We are very fortunate to have so many well-trained RVTs on our staff because there is a huge shortage statewide. We are dedicated to providing a model work environment so that the best RVT's will be drawn to the hospital and will want to stay throughout their career.
In addition, the medical and reception staff have funds available for continuing education. We also offer, to our staff, on-site lectures by qualified educators such
as the well-known veterinary dentist Michael Floyd, DVM, FAVDS.

The Reception Staff
We currently have seven receptionists who form the primary contact for our clients. Most of our receptionists have been with us many years so they have extensive experience with our clients, their pets, and the services we offer. Thus our receptionists can help to form a more effective liaison between our veterinarians
and our clients. In person and on the telephone they help to answer questions and gather the information needed to assist our clients. Additionally they schedule appointments, fill prescriptions per the recommendations of our veterinarians, maintain medical files, and handle financial transactions. We all strive to make sure your pets receive optimal care and our clients receive the highest level of service.
